The USS Wasp was built in Newburyport in 1813 and was one of the most successful US Navy ships in that conflict.
The topic centers on the Wasp, her Captain, the interactions between Wasp and Newburyport, and the prevailing economic and political climate of that age.
Captain Bob Cronin is a long-time resident of Newburyport and a member of the CHMM.
Bob retired from Law Enforcement after a nearly 33-year career.
After spending twenty-seven years with the Andover Police Department,
Bob was chosen to create and lead a Marine Patrol Unit for the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.
Bob retired as Deputy Superintendent in charge of the Detective Division.
Bob also founded and ran “Northeast Watercraft Accident Reconstruction Specialists,”
which investigated boat crashes throughout the United States and the Caribbean.
He was also a four-term Newburyport City Councilor and Mayoral Candidate.
He and his wife Sue, both now fully retired, enjoy New England boating and traveling.
