April First Friday Social: United States Coast Guard Surfmen
April 5 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Members of the Custom House Maritime Museum and their guests are cordially invited to our First Friday Social on April 5th, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 pm featuring the United States Coast Guard Surfmen.
Surfmen are the elite small boat operators of the U.S. Coast Guard with roots spanning back to the hardy lifesavers of the mid-19th century.
Today, roughly 150 men and women serve in the position nationwide, and are called to lead their boat crews in the execution of Search and Rescue missions in the worst conditions nature can offer. The position isn’t for the faint of heart. The arduous training can take years to complete.
Hear firsthand from two Surfmen charged with protecting the mariners of the Merrimack River:
BMCS Shawn Crahen, Officer in Charge, Station Merrimack River
BMC Ben Molnar, Executive Petty Officer, Station Merrimack River
Come and enjoy a variety of wines generously provided by New England Wine and Spirits — along with fine craft beers from Newburyport Brewery — the official beer of the Custom House Maritime Museum! Light appetizers will be served.
Please, remember to bring your membership card with you!
Guests are encouraged to become members.
