May First Friday – Gary Kozak – Undersea Search & Recovery
May 3 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Garry Kozak has been serving the undersea industry since 1970 and his early career as a commercial diver, supported oil drilling rigs off the coast of Newfoundland, pipe laying in the Gulf of Mexico and salvage operations in the Great Lakes. Garry’s career as an undersea search specialist began in 1972 off the coast of Labrador using sidescan sonar. Garry has more than 40 years of field experience managing search operations from the Arctic to the Tropics. Today Garry travels the world providing consulting and training expertise to Navies and companies who have a critical underwater search need. His work has taken him to the Canadian Arctic with National Geographic to locate the H.M.S. Breadalbane, off the coast of England with author Clive Cussler in search of John Paul Jones’ vessel, the Bon Homme Richard, and on countless other treasure and historic shipwreck searches. Recent projects have included the search for the USS Indianapolis and the recent finding of the lost Argentina submarine San Juan. His work off New England includes the search and locating of the USS O-9 submarine, the mapping of the Empire Knight and the finding of the German submarine U550.
The presentation will introduce the undersea search technology and focus on New England Shipwrecks & Sea Stories.
