Member First Friday: Whitefield & The Newbury’s

Please join us Friday, September 2nd at 6 pm as Jerry Mullins explores the history of how Reverend George Whitefield and the Great ‘Awakening’ shook the Newbury’s to the core and affected the future of America.
Rev. George Whitefield, an Anglican minister, came to the Newbury parishes; and caused a political and religious earthquake that was repeated across the American British colonies, and which lead to the birth of a Republic whose institution has spread throughout the world.
More About the Speaker
Jerry Mullins, a resident of Newburyport since 1987 and lives in the South End. He’s presently the Tour Manager at the Old South Presbyterian Church, known internationally as the ‘Whitefield Church’.  As of 2009, an amateur Historian of all things involving Newburyport and its surrounding communities.
An advocate for historic preservation, known locally as the ‘P. Preservationist’ (Poor Preservationist) pushing strongly for the establishment of local historic districts and preservation ordinances.  Was strongly involved with an ad-hoc group, CEB, in urging citizen petitions for building & land preservation seeing several successes including the passage of the Community Preservation Act and the preservation of the historic Common Pasture which largely lies within Newburyport’s borders.
Currently President of the Parker River Clean Water Association, and Trail Manager of the Little River Trail System which includes the Upper Little River Tributary.
